9 hook rules from 1,000+ tracked artist posts.

We log the performance of every artist post we touch — reach, watch time, sends, saves, completion. These are the nine rules the data keeps proving. The multipliers below aren't vibes; they're measured.

Name the name. 4–5×

Posts that put a real name — the artist, the brand, the song — in the first text overlay AND the first caption word reach 4–5× further than anonymous "vibe" posts. Nobody searches for a mood. People search for names.

Film once, package three times.

Never post the same clip to IG, YouTube, and TikTok. Same footage, three native edits with three different hooks — each platform scores a different thing, and a watermark from one platform suppresses you on the next.

On Instagram, likes are dead. Sends win.

IG's strongest ranking signal is DM shares. Write the caption so someone sends it to a specific friend: name the emotion, invite the share. A save or send is worth a hundred likes.

Relatable statement before the music plays.

The best-performing live-music clips open with a relatable text hook ("this bass player is a legend and I will not be taking questions") — THEN the music hits. The hook buys the first 2 seconds; the music buys the rest.

On YouTube Shorts, the title is the whole game. 5.7×

Artist name in the title, keep captions under 40 characters (short captions outperform long ones 5.7× in our tracking), and give every clip a series suffix ("| Your Series Name"). YouTube is a search engine — feed it names.

BTS beats polish. 6.7×

Raw behind-the-scenes clips outperform cinematic b-roll 6.7× in our logs. The audience wants to be in the room, not at the screening. Polish is for the music video; the feed wants the making of it.

Engineer the loop.

YouTube counts a view on every replay. Cut 10–20 second clips where the last frame flows back into the first — a clean loop mechanically doubles your view count while you sleep.

Post when your audience is awake, not when you finish editing.

Midday (noon–1pm) mid-week wins on IG; weekends win on YouTube for music content. In our tracking the same clip posted at the right hour reached 5× the same clip at the wrong one.

The hook is decided before the shoot.

The single visual someone stops scrolling for — plan it, light it, shoot it three ways. "We'll find something in the edit" is how feeds die. Every post above started as a planned moment, not a lucky one.
